at Lectures was good with a percentage of 99.2%. The Division again won the Mok Cho Chuen Trophy in open competition with representative squads from other Divisions in the Colony. During the year Mr. I. B. Trevor, Divisional Superintendent, and Dr. J. E. Dovey, M.B., Ch.B., (Edin.), Divisional Surgeon, were promoted to the rank of Corps Officers in the Brigade. Mr. A. E. Perry, Traffic Assistant, and Dr. J. B. Mackie, M.B., Ch.B. (Edin.), Railway Medical Official, were appointed Divisional Superintendent and Divisional Surgeon, respectively, to fill the vacant posts.

111. The strength of the Railway Operating Detachment Cadre of the Hong Kong Volunteer Defence Corps at the end of the year was 5 officers and 54 other ranks. The personnel of the Operating Section performed their part in a special Defence exercise organised by the Military Authorities on February 28th.

112. Both the discipline and the industry of the staff, throughout the year, have been excellent, and have contributed, in no small measure, to the record low unit costs obtained.
