At the end of the year forty-seven public stand pipes, 192 pedestal fire hydrants and 650 underground hydrants were in use.

New services were constructed or old ones altered, improved, repaired or connected to the mains to the number of 6,982 and forty-one supplies were laid for building purposes.
The number of inspections of services carried out was 12,576. Defective services were found in 708 cases, all of which were put in proper repair after the usual notices had been served.
Particulars of the quantity of water supplied by meters are given in Table VI, the amount so supplied being 2,931.37 million gallons. 65.4% of the total consumption for the year has therefore been accounted for by meters compared with 67.8% in 1935.
Motors in Bowen Road Mechanical Filter and Elliott Filter Beds and in all Pump Houses were maintained in good order.

61. Village Water Supplies
(a) Shaukiwan and Chai Wan-The supply was subjected to restrictions similar to those in force in the City of Victoria, a constant supply being maintained for 152 days during the year.
The total consumption of filtered water from the Chai Wan Filters for the year was 60.80 million gallons, which includes 1.74 million gallons supplied to the boat population and 5.27 million gallons to the barracks at Chai Wan, equivalent to an average of 167,000 gallons per day. Details of consumption are given in Table VIII. During the dry season the supply was augmented from the city system.
There were thirty-six public stand pipes and twenty-five fire hydrants in use at the end of the year.
The old nullah intakes to Chai Wan Filters were abandoned during the year, and a new 3″ pipe line laid to feed the Filters from the new Mount Parker Lower Catchwater.
