The following is a summary of works carried out under this vote:
HONG KONG.
51. Maintenance of Buildings:-Government Buildings were kept in a good state of repair. Painting, colourwashing and repairs in accordance with the recurring programme were carried out to twenty-two buildings. Owing to financial stringency, the programme work to fifty buildings was postponed. Major repairs included the following:-Peak School-repairs to fence, 463 and 361, The Peak-renewed ceilings, Mountain Lodge--renewed smoke pipes to boiler and general repairs, 372, The Peak-repairs and colourwash, 151 and 465, The Peak-colourwashing, 361, The Peak—repairs to retaining wall, 275, The Peak-colourwashing, varnishing and repairs, Stubbs Road Garages-renewed several doors and repaired roof, Government House-general repairs and programme work to first floor, erected matsheds for His Majesty the King's Birthday, Arbuthnot Road Quarters--repaired roof, floors and partitions, New Government Offices-general repairs were carried out, Queen's College-roof, floors and windows repaired, Victoria Gaol-renewed ceiling joists, Western Market-gates repaired, Harbour Office-joists and floor boards repaired, Central Fire Station-partial programme work was carried out and general repairs, Central Market-erected shoring to first floors, Central Police Station and Quarters-general repairs, No. 11 Ice House Street-staircase repaired and colourwashing and painting, Magistracy Quarters--renewed ceilings, Old Harbour Office-roof repaired, General Post Office-alterations to mezzanine floor, Import and Export Shed on Praya-roof and framework repaired, Mounted Infantry Horse Lines, Sookunpo---defective roof renewed, Queen's Gardens Flats-general repairs and renewal of ceilings, Plant House, Botanical Gardens-repaired bamboo work, Tsat Tse Mui Houses-out-houses repaired, Wanchai Fire Station-doors and drill tower repaired, Quarry Bay School-concrete surfacing repaired, Bacteriological Institute---general repairs were carried out, Government Civil Hospital-general repairs were carried out, Slaughter House, Kennedy Town-furnace repaired.
