Q 17

The total consumption of filtered water from the Chai Wan Filters for the year was 35.12 million gallons which includes 2.82 million gallons supplied to the boat population, equivalent to an average of 96,000 gallons per diem. An unfiltered supply of 2.33 million gallons was given to the barracks at Sai Wan, which, along with the amount of filtered supply stated above, made a total of 37.45 million gallons or 103,000 gallons per diem. The details of the consumption are given in Table VIII. During the dry season, the supply was augmented from the city system. There were 36 street fountains in use at the end of the year.

(b) Aberdeen. The hours of supply were restricted during the year as follows:-1st to 24th January, and 28th January to 30th April, 10 hours supply (6-11 A.M. and 4-9 P.M.). 1st May to 30th June, 6 hours supply (6-9 A.M. and 4.30-7.30 P.M.). 26th August to 8th September, 10 hours supply (6-11 A.M. and 4-9 P.M.). 9th to 20th September, 6 hours supply (6-9 A.M. and 4.30-7.30 P.M.). 21st September to 8th November, 8 hours supply (6-10 A.M. and 4-8 P.M.). 9th November to 31st December, 10 hours supply (6-11 A.M. and 4-9 P.M.). From 24th to 27th January (Chinese New Year) and from 1st July to 25th August a constant supply was given. The works generally were maintained in a satisfactory condition. In 1932 it was intended to relay the submarine pipe to Aplichau, and the necessary piping was obtained through the Crown Agents. As, however, no trouble was experienced during the year it was decided to postpone this work and utilise the old pipe as long as it continues to give satisfactory service. The new piping is therefore being kept in Government Store until it is required.

The total consumption of filtered water was 25.74 million gallons including 3.80 million gallons supplied through the water boat station and 3.01 million gallons supplied through the 2" main to Aplichau. The average consumption for the year was 71,000 gallons per diem. The details of the consumption are given in Table VIII.
