(vi) a layout was prepared for completion of the develop-
ment of the northern end of Stanley Peninsula;
(vii) a road plan was prepared for the western slope of Jardine's Lookout between Tai Hang Road and the Catchwater, to open up this area for development;
(viii) a scheme was prepared shewing a site for a new magistracy at King's Park with a residential and recreational layout adjoining;
(ix) a scheme for the development of Kowloon Tsai, in course of preparation last year, was completed and approved by Government;
(x) the proposed development of a site for the new Central British School on Argyle Street with adjoining residential area was considered and a tentative layout drawn up;
(xi) a scheme was prepared for the development of the area north of Cornwall Street, Kowloon Tong for residential purposes; and
(xii) proposals were also prepared for the development for residential purposes of that area known as Whitfield Barracks.
37. Sketch plans were prepared for the following proposed buildings:--New Post Office and Government Offices at Kowloon; Vernacular Normal School for women; Bungalow at Fanling for His Excellency the Governor; Residence for the Director, Royal Observatory, Kowloon; Quarters for Officer-in-Charge, Cape D'Aguilar Wireless Station; Belilios Reformatory; Latrine, Fraya East.
38. Estimates of cost and rough sketches for a considerable number of projected buildings and alterations were also prepared.
EXPENDITURE.
39. The expenditure on Public Works has grown very considerably during the last three decades. The average annual expenditure during the years 1903 to 1912 was $1,867,890, from 1913 to 1922 it was $3,276,420, whilst from 1923 to 1932 the average annual expenditure has been $8,528,680.
40. Tables I, II, and III at the end of this report give various comparative statements of expenditure.
