VALUATIONS AND RESUMPTIONS.

33. The total valuations made during the year 1932 comprised 1,487 properties with a total estimated value of $76,649,572.74. Valuations were made for the purpose of resumption for street widening and the development of areas in accordance with the approved Town Planning Scheme. Table XIV shows the resumptions actually effected. A total of 170 properties were submitted to arbitration and settled upon. Compensation in accordance with the Board's awards amounted to a total of $62,736.54 (less costs $2,054.00 awarded to the Crown).

In addition to the valuations shown in Table XIV, 1,217 properties totalling $76,470,747.29 were valued for other purposes.

HARBOUR SURVEYING.

34. About 4,020 acres were surveyed, reduced and plotted by the end of the year. This area together with previous surveys brings the area of the harbour surveyed on fixed lines to a total of approximately 6,159 acres, leaving a balance of approximately 5,841 acres to be surveyed. Reference was made to this work in paragraph 35 of last year's report.

TOWN PLANNING.

35. Development has proceeded generally on the lines indicated in the recommendations laid down by the Report of the Town Planning Committee, 1922. Minor amendments and alterations to levels were made where necessary to conform to present conditions.

36. The most important of the schemes which were prepared comprised:

(i) the redevelopment of the area bounded by Pedder Street, Queen's Road Central, the Naval Dockyard and the Harbour.

(ii) the improvement of the Morrison Gap-Wong Nei Chong Road junction;

(iii) the redevelopment of the area bounded by Yee Wo Street, Caroline Road, and I.L. 457, at present covered by old and dilapidated slum property;

(iv) a development of the valley lying to the North East of Aberdeen Village;

(v) two schemes were prepared for the development of the low-lying area south of Little Hong Kong, one showing development as a recreational centre and a residential quarter of European Garden City type, the other showing development as an industrial area;
