(b) Sewage and Stormwater Drains.-A total length of 6,186 feet of sewage and storm water drains varying from 4′′ to 27′′ in diameter were laid during the year, principally in the Wong Nei Chong and Tai Hang district. Others were laid in the Central city district, and at Praya East, Shaukiwan, Pokfulam and Aberdeen. The number of drain connections made was 209. Many new gullies with flat gully gratings were constructed and connected to the stormwater drainage system.

198. Miscellaneous.-The following is a brief description of the principal works executed under this head :-New Government Offices (Treasury)-Erection of simplex partitions, etc. to form extra office accommodation; Lysholt-New garage; Gardeners Quarters, Garden Road-Installation of a water carriage system to replace existing dry latrines. Improvements and additions to the electrical installations were made in twenty-nine Government buildings, and nine fans, three motors, twenty-one radiators and ten telephones installed in sixteen buildings. Alterations and improvements to Incinerator, Shaukiwan; Queen's Gardens-Forming car park; Preliminary survey works of Road to R.B.L. 243; Preliminary survey of Road to Wong Ma Kok and connecting R.B.L. 243, Stanley Peninsula; Preliminary survey work of Access Road to R.B.L. 200 (Repulse Bay to Ma Kong Bay.) Very many works of a minor character were also carried out.

199. Water Works. The following is a statement of the works carried out under this heading. Two steel plate tanks, having a combined capacity of 60,000 gallons were erected near the West Point Filter Beds to act as balance tanks to the Robinson Road zone. The 4" main in Kennedy Road which was partially choked, was relaid in 6" for a length of 1,134 feet (from Garden Road to a point below I.L. 1379) and thence in 4" for 621 feet terminating below I.L. 1453. 132 feet of 4′′ main were laid from Elliot Filter Beds to Pokfulam Road to improve the supply to Hok Tze Terrace and vicinity. Ninety feet of 4′′ main were laid in Tsing Fung Street. 540 feet of 3" W.I. pipe were laid to supply I.L. 2452 and adjoining property above Tai Hang Village. The 3" main in Ko Shing Street was extended for a length of 165 feet. The 3" main in Chiu Loong Street was extended for a length of eighty-one feet. The 2′′ main from Mount Gough Tank to Severn Road (South circuit) was replaced with a 3" main for a length of 576 feet.

200. Port Works.-The expenditure incurred under this head during the year was for borings in connection with the development of the Hong Kong Yacht Club site and for the payment of labour for carrying out miscellaneous minor works.
