184. Maintenance of Water Works at Tai Po.-The total quantity of water supplied during the year was 18.49 million gallons equal to an average consumption of 51,000 gallons per day. Owing to rapid development in the vicinity of Tai Po Market, the existing supply pipe is becoming inadequate and will shortly have to be enlarged or duplicated.

185. Water Account (Meters &c.)-There were eighty meters in use at the close of the year as follows:-

187. Maintenance of Praya Walls and Piers.-The Praya Walls and Piers were maintained in a satisfactory condition. Repairs were carried out to the following structures during the year:-Piers at Castle Peak, Cheung Chau, Tai O and Tsun Wan.

188. A summary of the works carried out under this vote is given below.

BUILDINGS.
189. Victoria Gaol, New Printing Shop. This work was described in paragraph 109 of last year's report. The work proceeded satisfactorily and was completed and ready for occupation in June. The building is wired for electric lights and power points. Sixty-two fans, four three-phase motors and alarm bells were installed.

190. New No. 2 Police Station. This work was described in paragraph 107 of last year's report. The work proceeded satisfactorily throughout the year and by the end of December the Indian Quarters were ready for occupation and the carcase of the main building was completed; internal finishings-plastering, laying of wood floors, etc.—were well advanced and the installation of electrical, water and gas services was almost completed, drains were being laid and a contract for bituminous roofing had been let. Electric wiring for lights, fans etc. was well advanced.
