179. Maintenance of Sewers, Nullahs, &c.-The sewers, stormwater drains, trained nullahs and concrete channels were cleansed, repaired, and maintained in good condition. Sundry repairs were carried out to channels, and rocky streamcourses connected up in the vicinity of the "Flywheel" Tai Po.

180. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages. Following the typhoons repairs of varying magnitude were necessary at fifteen Government buildings. Damage to telephone cable at Sheung Shui on April 20th, 1931 by rainstorm (Railway accident) was made good. Electric battery at Shing Mun Valley Water Works was damaged by flood water and repaired. Au Tau Magnetograph Hut and aerial line and submarine cable at Lan Tau (Cap Shiu Mun) were repaired.

181. The undermentioned works suffered damages :-Clearing Road near Tai Po Police Station, Patrol Path Lin Ma Hang to Sha Tau Kok, and the repairs were made good by the end of the year. Considerable damage was also done to culverts, stream beds, bridges piers, abutments, wing walls, embankments, etc. by the heavy rains on the 21st April. The heavy rainstorms particularly of April and May caused numerous landslips and washouts throughout the district.

182. Minor repairs were carried out to 39″ U shaped channel, and back filling on either side of same, in valley north of Mr. Agassiz's house, Tai Po; channels and pools in streamcourses between 15 milestone and Railway crossing Tai Po; sand and silt were removed from partially trained nullah through swamp at Railway crossing near Island House, Tai Po.

183. Maintenance of Water Works at Fanling.-The total quantity of water supplied during the year was 7.97 million gallons equal to an average consumption of 22,000 gallons per day.
