71. Maintenance of Roads and Bridges in City and Improvements to Roads and Bridges in City. The surfaces of approximately seventy-one miles of roads were maintained in a satisfactory condition. The asphaltum treatment of the carriageways was further extended.

72. The following figures show the extent of the operations carried out at the Government Quarry, Tsat Tsz Mui, during the year. A total quantity of 14,290 cubic yards of various grades of stone were passed through crushers, of which 3,787 cubic yards were made into tar macadam, 1,490 cubic yards into sand-carpeting and 9,013 cubic yards were delivered to various works as the material came from crushers. 41,327 granolithic paving slabs were provided for use on footways, 181 reinforced concrete standards for railings, and 200 concrete pickets were made.

73. The following are particulars of the additional areas laid with improved surfacing during the year:—

Tarring and sanding 3,588 Square yards.
21″ granolithic paving slabs laid on footways 14,601 Square yards.
Asphaltic sand-carpeting laid on 6″ cement concrete foundation 12,855 Square yards.
