This office undertakes the construction of quay walls and piers (including maintenance), dredging and hydrographic survey, and the Vehicles & Ferry Piers scheme.

13. Accounts and Stores Office.-One Superintendent of Accounts and Stores; one Inspector of Stores; three Assistant Storekeepers; one Inspector of Furniture; and one Clerk.

This office is in charge of the P.W.D. accounts and the stores and stationery required by this and other Government departments either purchased locally or through Crown Agents. The provision and repair of all furniture required for Government offices, schools, and quarters is also carried out by this sub-department.

14. The non-European staff of the Public Works Department comprising Surveyors, Draughtsmen, Clerks, Foremen, Firemen, Messengers, Office Attendants, Coolies etc. numbers approximately five hundred men.

15. The Expenditure on Public Works has grown very considerably during the last three decades. The average annual expenditure during the years 1902 to 1911 was $1,860,500, from 1912 to 1921 it was $2,911,050, whilst from 1922 to 1931 the average annual expenditure has been $8,231,170.
