Debits in respect of demurrage and hire of stock for the first eleven months, were accepted by the Administration of the Chinese Section, and the accounts adjusted accordingly. The Claims for Suspension of Traffic however were not accepted, and the total outstanding at the end of the year was as follows:-

74. Interest on Loan and Special Expenditure, and other items for the current year, were included in the Income Account and the balance carried to Profit and Loss Account, this balance standing at $483,159.32 being transferred to Surplus Appropria- tion Account. The total deficit at the end of the year being $6,510,538.95.

MEDICAL.

75. Dr. I. Newton held the appointment of Railway Medical Officer until the end of March when he was succeeded by Dr. J. E. Dovey.

76. The Railway Medical Officer reports as follows:-

The attendance during 1927 amounted to 1,202 as com-

pared with 737 in 1926.

40 patients were sent to Hospital for treatment.

1 patient was treated with anti-rabic vaccine. 200 persons attended the physical examinations. 363 prescriptions were dispensed.

598 persons attended the daily dressing.

There were 14 accidents during the year involving bodily injury of which 4 were fatal.

As the eye-sight and physical examinations are carried out every 18 months, the results will fall into next year's Annual Report.
