Most of the damage done in this district was made good by the end of the year.

1926 Estimate, $ 4,000.00

1926 Sup. Vote, $87,000.00

1926 Expenditure, $91,000.00 $73,070.23

83. Maintenance of Waterworks. A constant supply of water was maintained in all districts throughout the year with the exception of the period from 1st March to 12th April inclusive when a restricted supply was resorted to. A 3 hours' supply to the whole peninsula was given daily with an additional 2 hours' supply to the district lying South of Gascoigne and Austin Roads.

The Shek Lai Pui Reservoir, which contained 83.14 million gallons on January 1st, was opened on January 12th, and by the end of March its entire contents had been discharged into the Kowloon Reservoir. Without this reservoir, the water situation in Kowloon during the winter of 1925-1926 would have been much more serious.

Before the end of March, beneficial rain had fallen and as the April rainfall proved to be the highest ever recorded for that month, all further danger of a water shortage during the year was averted.

By the end of the year, the new Reception Reservoir had been almost filled with Shing Mun water and when a short length of trunk main has been laid, this supply will also be available for Kowloon.

The total quantity supplied was 832.84 million gallons, giving an average daily consumption of 2.28 million gallons or 14.6 gallons per head per day, taking an estimated population of 155,620.

Details are given in Annexe H.

The quantity of water stored in the impounding reservoirs on 1st January amounted to 262.60 million gallons and it reached a minimum on the 2nd March when it amounted to 152.70 million gallons. The reservoir was at or above its permanent overflow level from 19th July to 19th November on various dates.

The quantity of water remaining in the reservoirs at the end of the year amounted to 384.60 million gallons.
