80. Maintenance of Chinese Cemeteries.-These cemeteries were maintained in good condition during the year.

1926 Estimate $1,000.00.
1926 Expenditure $680.02.

81. Maintenance of Recreation Grounds.-The new lay-out of King's Park for recreation purposes was completed early in the year.

Departmental gangs were employed for the purpose of mowing grass, cleaning ditches etc.

82. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages.-The rainstorms and typhoons of April, July and September caused considerable damage, particulars of which are set out hereunder:

Buildings. The principal items of damage were:- Disinfecting Station, roofs and matsheds badly damaged; Kowloon British School, landslide; Kowloon Hospital, landslip and washout in made-up site, exposing the drainage; Green Island Gunpowder Depôt, damage to sea-wall and pier; Kowloon Junior School matshed demolished.

Communications. Considerable damage was done through landslips brought about by the heavy rainstorm of July 18-19th, at Chatham Road Extension and To Kwa Wan Road. Several minor landslips occurred throughout the district. Small wash-outs took place at Lai Chi Kok Road, Road to Taikoktsui, Chatham Road, Taipo Road (south of Nan Chang Street) and Gascoigne Road Improvement. The undermentioned streets were cleared of debris deposited by the heavy rains:-

Shanghai Street, Wuhu Street, Gascoigne Road, Ho Mun Tin Road, Wing Sing Street, Nathan Road, Argyle Street, Canton Road, Reclamation Street, Chatham Road Extension, Waterloo Road.

The surface of roads treated with asphaltum suffered to a small extent only, but practically the whole of the ordinary macadamized roads had to be repaired owing to scour.

Drainage. The heavy rains of July almost completely choked with silt the nullahs in Waterloo Road, Gascoigne Road and Lo Lung Hang and partly choked the Mong Kok and Argyle Street Nullahs. Practically the whole of the silt was removed by the end of the year. The Mong Kok Tsui Nullah East through Railway was considerably blocked by a landslip but was cleared by the end of the year.

A certain number of aerial telephone lines were damaged in the Typhoons of July and September but communications were only slightly affected.
