Government Pavilions and Villas.—Grass plots at both places were cut, rolled, weeded and kept in good order generally; flowering shrubs were given such attention as they required.

The whole grounds were cleared of undergrowth and grass lawns cut, rolled and kept in good order generally.

Children's Playground, Kowloon.-The grass was regularly cut and weeded throughout the year.

Kowloon Magistracy Grounds.-Flowering shrubs were given such attention as they required and grass plots were regularly cut.

HERBARIUM.

Plant specimens collected in Hainan to the number of 228 received from Canton Christian College and 139 received from the Arnold Arboretum were received and mounted during the year.

A large number of specimens of the local flora were collected in Hongkong and the New Territories and added to the present collections to supplement those species which are represented by only very old and in some cases incomplete dried specimens.

Specimens of plants of economic value and vegetable drugs were identified and named for local collectors, also for collectors and institutions outside the Colony.

The library books were regularly inspected and repaisoned; a small number was purchased and added to the library.

FORESTRY.

A motor lorry maintained by the Public Works Department was allotted to this Department as from January 1st; this lorry has proved to be of great value for general forestry operations, particularly in dealing with roadside trees and plantation work in outlying districts, the rapid transport of Forest Guards and the recovery of illicitly felled timber.
