States that New South Wales has little concern with the more important tropical diseases, but maintains an elaborate Public Health Establishment, the laboratories of which are at the disposal of accredited investigators.

Concurs in proposal that the Protec- torate should contribute £200 annually to the common fand for five years.

States, in reply to No. 5, that the sub- ject has been referred to a special committee for consideration; observes that tropical medicine forms the subject of a Lectureship at the Uni- versity, and that certificates granted for adequate acquaintance with the subject.

'Transmits, in reply to No. 48, copy of a letter from Messrs. Blakemore en- closing samples of gauze and stating prices.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 5, and trusts that it may be possible in the near future to institute a system of instruction and an examination and diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene.

Reports that a contribution of £100 per annum for a period of five years will be made by the Colony towards the common fund; transmits copy of a letter addressed to Sir F. Lovell on the subject.

Reports that the Legislative Council have agreed to vote £25 in aid of the fund, and that the scheme was heartily approved by all the unofficial members.

Approves proposal in No. 46 that Basutoland should contribute £100.

Submits copy of a further letter from the Resident-General, enclosing copy of a letter from the Director of the Institute for Medical Research, Kuala Lumpor, submitting recommendations for the appointment of a permanent assistant.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 67, and expresses satisfaction with the con- tribution made.

Considers that, in the present financial condition of the Transvaal, all avail- able funds should be devoted to prosecuting the work of the local bac- teriological laboratories in investi- gating certain diseases principally affecting the Colony.
