Regrets that the resources of the Uni- versity do not admit of the establish- ment of an examination and diploma, Appreciates the steps already taken to encourage the study of tropical diseases and trusts that at some fature date further assistance may be ren- dered.

Reporte action taken, and expresses belief that the Legislative Council will vote a contribution towards the common fund from Colonial revenues.

Points out that any contribution made would, if included in the Federal Estimates, be in part a charge against Imperial funds, and requests an indi- cation of the sum which the Treasury would look favourably upon.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 8, and expresses fear that as the proposed issue has not been sanctioned the annual contribution towards the School of Tropical Medicine must also be abandoned.

Transmits copy of a despatch from the Resident Commissioner, Mafeking, expressing the opinion that the ques tion of a further contribution by the Bechuanaland Protectorate in aid of malaria investigation should be de- cided by the Treasury.

Considers that the Colony and the Federated Malay States are at present contributing to the funds of the London School of Tropical Medicine as much as can be expected from them.

Forwards copy of a despatch from the Resident Commissioner, Maseru, and enquires whether the suggestion that a contribution of £100 should be made by the Basutoland Government to- wards the common fund is approved.

Acknowledges receipt of Nos. 27 and 42, and explains that the suggestion for a contribution from the Leeward Islands was intended to apply only to Presidencies not in receipt of Imperial

aid.

Transmits copy of No. 27, and requests observations on the paragraph relating to the price charged in the Colony for wire gauze.

States that the Colonial Surgeon is of opinion that a special training in tropical diseases is desirable in the case of medical appointments in the Colony, but that the financial condi- tion of the Colony will not permit of a contribution.

States that a vote for £50 was passed by the Council of Government on 17th February, but that the Government does not see its way at present to making any further contribution.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 19, and states that the Colony will bear its share of the cost of the enquiry pro- vided the expenditure involved be moderate.
