4. The report* from Professor Nuttall on the work done in the Quick Laboratory, Cambridge, during the year 1914 was received and read with interest.

The Committee recommended that Dr. Hindle and Mr. Cave, while absent from the Laboratory on military duty, should receive their ordinary stipends from the fund less their military pay and allowances, on the assumption that their military pay and allowances amount to less than their stipends.

The statistics of mosquito-borne diseases for the year 1913 from the Northern Territory of Australia, Nyasaland, Southern Nigeria, Zanzibar, It was agreed that the Mauritius, and the Straits Settlements were received.† returns from Zanzibar and the Straits Settlements should be specially commended. 6. A report by Dr. Aldo Castellani on research work at the Clinic for Tropical Diseases and the Bacteriological Institute in Ceylon, for the first six months of 1914, was received.

In view of Dr. Castellani's approaching departure from Ceylon, the Committee decided to place on record their appreciation of his work in Ceylon, as showing evidence of the greatest industry, especially in connexion with his investigations on yaws.

A reports from the Government Bacteriologist in Jamaica on the work done at the Pathological Laboratory during the period from the 1st of April to the 30th of September, 1914, was received.

8. The Committee recommended that, subject to the grant of £1,000 from Imperial funds being paid as hitherto, contributions should be made from the Tropical Diseases Research Fund in 1915 as follows:-

The grant of £850 to the University of London includes a sum of £100 for Dr. Woodcock, for whom a similar amount was provided from the fund in 1914 without prejudice to the continuance of the grant in 1915 or subsequent years.

9. The Committee passed a resolution of thanks to Mr. A. Berriedale Keith for the zealous and efficient way in which he had always performed the duties of secretary.

Downing Street, 23rd December, 1914. I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to acknowledge the receipt letter of the 2nd of November, enclosing the report of the Professor of Protozoo- logy in the University of London for the year ended the 30th of June, 1914.

2. This report and the report by Dr. H. M. Woodcock enclosed in your letter of the 11th of September † were laid before the Advisory Committee for the Tropi- cal Diseases Research Fund at their meeting of the 11th of December, and were read with much interest.

3. On the recommendation of the Committee, the Secretary of State has ap- proved the renewal of the grant of £100 in 1915 from the Tropical Diseases Research Fund, in addition to the grant of £750 which was guaranteed for five years from the 1st of January, 1911, in respect of the salary of the Professor of Protozoology in the University of London. The grant of £100 is approved with- out prejudice to its continuance in any year subsequent to 1915, and it is under- stood that it will be expended in the same manner as the extra grant of £100 which was made in 1914. The Crown Agents for the Colonies have been authorized to pay to you, on application, the sum of £850 on or after the 1st of July, 1915.

I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 31st of October,‡ transmitting reports of the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine for the six months ended the 31st of October, 1914, to show the manner in which the grant of £1,200 from the Tropical Diseases Research Fund is being expended.

2. The reports were laid before the Advisory Committee of the Tropical Diseases Research Fund at their meeting of the 11th of December, and were read with interest.

3. On the recommendation of the Committee, the Secretary of State has approved the renewal of the grant of £1,200 for the year 1915. The Crown Agents for the Colonies have been authorized to pay to you, on application, the sum of £600 on or after the 1st of January, 1915, and the sum of £600 on or after the 1st of July, 1915.

(b) To the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine the sum of £600 on or after the 1st of January, 1915, and the sum of £600 on or after the 1st of July, 1915.
