PROFESSOR G. H. F. NUTTALL to COLONIAL OFFICE.
(Received 14th November, 1914.)
[Answered by No. 93.]
Longfield, Madingley Road, Cambridge, 12th November, 1914.
SIRS,
I HAVE the honour to submit the enclosed report on the work carried out in the Quick Laboratory during the year 1914, and, at the same time, beg to apply for the renewal of the grant for the year 1915.
When the war broke out I did all I could to encourage the young men in the Laboratory to enlist in the Army, and the result has been most gratifying, as will be seen by reference to my report. I have assured each man that his post will be retained for him or at most temporarily filled during his absence. As both Dr. Hindle and Mr. Cave are poorly off, I trust that the Advisory Committee will see their WAY to help them very materially by allowing me to pay them their stipends during their absence, their military allowances being deducted. I remain, &c.,
G. H. F. NUTTALL. [Enclosure published as Appendix III. to [Cd. 7796], April, 1915.]
MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE OF THE TROPICAL DISEASES RESEARCH FUND HELD AT THE COLONIAL OFFICE, AT 4.30 P.M., ON FRIDAY, 11TH OF DECEMBER, 1914.

SIR THOMAS BARLOW (in the chair).
SIR DAVID BRUCE.

MR. READ.
SIR RONALD Ross.
MR. PARKINSON (Secretary).
1. The minutes of the meeting of the 20th of July, 1914,† were approved, subject to the omission of the words "in his
in line 7 of paragraph 6. spare time 2. The reports from the London and Liverpool Schools of Tropical Medicine for the half-year ended the 31st of October, 1914, were received and read with interest.
It was noted that no report from Dr. Leiper had been sent from the London School of Tropical Medicine. It was assumed that this was due to his having returned from China only quite recently. The Committee were of the opinion that Dr. Leiper's report, or at least a summary of it, should be sent to the Committee before being published in any other form, and Sir Patrick Manson undertook to speak to Dr. Leiper on the matter. Mr. Read pointed out that there would be no difficulty in having Dr. Leiper's report included in the annual report of the Com-
mittee, as the latter could not be issued for some time.
As regards the report from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the Committee noted the absence of any reference to the new ward arrangements for tropical diseases, and instructed the Secretary to suggest to the school authorities the inclusion of some remarks on this subject in the next report.
3. The reports from the Professor of Protozoology in the University of London and from his assistant on the work during the year ended the 30th of June, 1914, were received and read with much interest.
Sir David Bruce called attention to the valuable and interesting work which Professor Minchin and Dr. Woodcock had been carrying out.
The Committee agreed that in publishing Dr. Woodcock's report the passage in brackets on page 6" (For instance need not be published) omitted.
