Governor-General's Office, Melbourne, 14th August, 1914. REFERRING to your Circular despatch, dated 25th March last, covering copies of the Report of the Advisory Committee for the Tropical Diseases Research Fund,t I have the honour to inform you that I am advised by my Prime Minister that the Government will ask Parliament to authorize the contribution of £200 per annum to the Fund for a period of five years commencing with the financial year 1914-15.

Government House, Suva, Fiji, 30th August, 1914. WITH reference to your Circular despatch of the 25th March last,* I have the honour to inform you that the Legislative Council, at a meeting held on the 27th instant, agreed that the sum of £100 should be included in the Annual Esti- mates for five years more from the year 1915 as a grant towards the Tropical Diseases Research Fund.

2. The necessary provision will be made under Head XIX., Miscellaneous, in the Estimates for the years 1916-1919 inclusive, and I shall be glad if the Crown Agents may be authorised to make the annual payments in the month of January of each year.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch No. 1178, of the 28th July, 1914,‡ on the subject of the contribution of Nigeria to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund.

2. In deference to your wishes, I agree to the increase of the contribution to £400. The necessary provision will be made in the Estimates for the years 1915, 1916, 1917 and 1918, and I request that you will instruct the Crown Agents to make a payment of £400 instead of £350 for the year 1914.
