Dimension 11.—The distance between the notch of the flukes and the centre of the anus is a little shorter than in the North Atlantic finners; Mr. J. E. Hamilton measured to the posterior edge of the anus, and possibly some of the other northern measurements were taken in this way. Similarly dimensions 12 (females, notch of flukes to clitoris) and 18 (notch of flukes to navel) are relatively shorter in the finners of South Georgia.
Dimension 17.-The pectoral fin appears to be slightly longer and broader (dimension 18) in males than in females.
VERTEBRÆ.
Major Barrett-Hamilton made the following notes upon the condition of the epiphyses of the vertebræ in the finners examined by him at South Georgia :-

As noted above, 18 in. have been added to the total length of each finner measured by Mr. J. E. Hamilton at Belmullet in 1913 in order to make the data recorded by him comparable with the others before me.
From the above table it is evident that in most respects the bodily propor- tions of the finners of South Georgia agree closely with those of their representa- tives in the North Atlantic. Some slight differences, in part attributable to race, in part apparently dependent upon age and sex, are dealt with in the following
notes:-
Dimension 6.-The distance between the tip of the snout and the centre of the eye appears to increase relatively with age; this, and the absence of immature females, probably accounts for the higher average value of the measurement in the females than in the males at South Georgia.
Dimension 7.-The distance between the tip of the snout and the centre of the blowhole averages slightly more than in the northern whales. The measure- ments made at Belmullet in 1911 by Mr. Burfield in particular are short; those made by Mr. J. E. Hamilton are, however, too short, because he measured to the anterior margin instead of to the centre of the blowhole.
Dimension 8-The distance between the tip of the snout and the axilla is apparently slightly shorter than in the North Atlantic finners.
Dimension 9.-The distance between the eye and the ear apparently decreases with age, and in adults seems to be slightly shorter in females than in males.
* In No. 275 (68 ft. long) the dorsal fin was 22 in, high or 29 per cent. of the body length; this case
is not included among the twenty-three mentioned here.

COLOUR (INCLUDING COLOUR OF BALEEN).
The following are the notes made by Major Barrett-Hamilton respecting the external colouration and the pigmentation of the baleen of the finners examined by him at South Georgia :—

8 (675 ft.):-"Slate grey, mottled with white above; below irregu- larly glossy white." "The baleen included a series of 133 white plates. which occupied a length of 4 ft. 4 in., and 371 blue plates, i.e., 504 plates in all "(x 2)?,' but the bristles at each end are hard to count." 19 (69 ft.):-" Colour as No. 18."
