London Convention for the Preservation of Wild Animals, Birds, and Fishes in Africa.

Transmits copy of a despatch from the Governor of the Cape covering a minute from Ministers expressing entire concurrence in the opinion of their predecessors, and stating that a draft bill is being prepared for sub- mission to the Legislature.

Anthrax in the Gambia. Reports as to the condition of cattle at Soma, Sikunda, Buraing, and at Kudang, and the native remedies for the disease.

Improvement of Veterinary Matters. Reports, in reply to No. 93, that there is only one Government Veterinary Surgeon in British Guiana, but that the procedure of appointment as indicated by the Secretary of State has been noted for adoption in future. States, in reply to No. 93, that there is only one Government Veterinary Surgeon in Trinidad, and that there is no probability of a vacancy for some years; adds that no disease peculiar to the Colony has been found.

The Wild Animals Preservation Ordinance, 1901. Transmits copies of Nos. 76 and 77, and approves the amendment of Section 2 (10) and (11) in accordance with the recommendations of the Society for the Preservation of the Wild Fauna of the Empire.

Improvement of Veterinary Matters. Reports, in reply to No. 93, that there Veterinary Department in

Improvement of Veterinary Matters. States, in reply to No. 93, that the Colony already has a fully qualified Veterinary Surgeon, but that the desirability of securing an officer with post-graduate training will be borne in mind in future appointments; forwards reports by the Government Bacteriologist and Colonial Veterinary Surgeon on certain diseases of animals,

and requests to be furnished with the results of the investigations of the Jenner Institute into septicemia în animals.

Forwards, in reply to No. 93, copy of a minute by the Principal Medical Officer, and suggests that medical officers desiring to go through a veterinary course should be assisted to do so; points out that investiga- tions could be carried on at an Institute of Research at Lagos, as proposed in his despatch of June 13, 1906.

Limitation of Sportsmen's Licences. Calls attention to the danger of exter- mination of game through the great increase of shooting parties, and states that it has been decided to limit the sportsmen's licences issued in any one year to 500); requests that the fact may be notified through the medium of "The Field."

Improvement of Veterinary Matters. Submits proposals in reply to No. 93, utilising the reports of Captain Harvey, R.A.M.C., to the War Office, and encloses a minute from the Principal Medical Officer and a report by Captain Harvey on his visit to the Karene District and to the railhead at Baiima.

States that the financial position of the Colony does not warrant the employ- ment of a veterinary officer.
