Preservation of Game.

Reports action already taken and to be taken in connection with the recom- mendations of the Society for the Preservation of the Wild Fauua of the Empire.

Submits Ordinance No. 6 of 1907 (giving effect to certain recommendations of with the the Society), together Attorney-General's report thereon.

Forwards order made under Section 2 of The Wild Animals, Birds, and Fish Preservation Ordinance, 1901," prescribing the minimum weight for sale of elephants' tusks, and providing for the making by every licence-holder of an annual return of game killed.

Cattle Breeding in Uganda. Reports on prospects of cattle breeding in Ankole, the appearance of a new disease "makebba," and the desira. bility of improving the breed of cattle and goats.

Veterinary Survey of Southern Nigeria. Notifies his selection for the appointment of temporary veterinary officers and states arrangements with regard to personal and scientific outfit, shooting licences, passage ticket, and date of sailing; transmits copy of No. 63.

Transmits copies of Nos. 114, 116, and 124, and requests that arrangements may be made for free transport for Mr. Garden and for the issue of licences for shooting animals in the course of his researches.

Reports acceptance by Mr. Garden of the appointment offered, and conveys thanks for the trouble taken in the matter.

Improvement of Veterinary Matters. Forwards, in reply to No. 93, minute by the Acting Principal Medical Officer, but observes that he does not altogether agree with the conclusions arrived at, and recommends that a Special Veterinary Officer should be attached to the Medical Department.

Proposes, in reply to No. 93, to leave the question over for the favourable consideration of the new Govern- ment; adds that the Director of Agri- culture is endeavouring to obtain the services of a Veterinary Bacteriologist from the source mentioned.
