Office.
Mr. Dyer, of the Education Department Hong Kong, called on me this morning to discuss in general terms tentative plans for the development of school`broadcasting in Hong Kong, and in particular he was anxious to know how much the BBC could help with the supply of programme material. He was interested to learn that since he left Hong Kong
last July some of our limited output of school broadcasting transcriptions had been despatched to the broadcasting station in liong Kong. I told him of our plans for operating a service of school broadcasting scripts, indicating, however, that our staff resources would not enable us to supply anything like the whole of our output in script form owing to the enormous amount of copyright clearance and other clerical and despatch work involved for such numerous contacts as we have all over the world. was very interested in this project and said that if we dealt with the broadcasting station on this matter he would be kept posted through his Director of Education.
He
Mr. Dyer struck me as a man of ability with a realistic ap reciation of the difficulties ahead of him. He has evidently good grounds for expecting whole-hearted support from his Colonial Government. School broadcasting as planned by him for Hong Kong would be in English and in Chinese.
