In the event of bandits operating in the area, the Police should stay in their positions with the Army patro ling and supporting, based on their pre-planned battalion areas. small parties of bandits must be a combined Army/Folice affair.

Operations against

The situation would be different if a heavy attack against the COLONY occurred. The Police would then have to ithdraw through the Army positions. It is the Army view that the role

of the Police should then be:-

(a) To provide guides, interpreters, etc., for Army units. (b) To guard the TAIPO L of C.

The problem of guarding/patrolling the L of C prior to the Police withdrawal is a difficult one. Commander 3C LOON

Infantry Brigade will consultith the Co EO IL CM and NE TERRITORIES forwarding an agreed proposed plan to the GOC and Commissioner of Police for their joint approval. recommendations will be completed by 1 February 154.
