General

It is evident that many Officers have either forgotten or havo never thoroughly learnt the characteristics of and rules for correct employment of Field Artillery.

Characteristics.

(a) Mobility: Field Artillery does not block roads any more

than other vehicles and should not warrant primary use of the sparse RMP resources.

(b) Ability to defend itself. It has this ability Range - ithout super-charge range of 25 par is only 11827X (remember 100cc and you won't be wrong hon guns are old and winds adverse!). Arty must therefor: be handled boldly and well "up" otherwise it will NOT be able to give

• proper support.

Remember also that with "intermediate charges" 2" pārs can shoot 10000X pretty well all round the clock, and so if deployed well up can be switched to de-l with infilteration, etc., rearwards.

Co-operation and Co-ordination.

(a) "Under Comd" is for everything, and the channel to an arty

unit or sub-unit "und r comd" is through the comunding unit or formation. Equally, adm must be undertaken by commanding unit or formation, when applicable.

() "In support" is more normal, and the unit or formation

supported has NO responsibilities beyond liaison.

(c) Taç Regt HQ/Tac Bde H and Bty Comd/Bn Comd MUST be in

each other's pockets.

25 Pars in A/Tk Role:

Should be used in defiladed positions.

Arty Tpt for Lifting Inf

This should be practised but is normally purely on immediate tactical expedient fixed up ell forward hotwoes the Inf and Arty Comds concerned. RASC do NOT come into it normally, as Arty Comd, whe MUST be the sole deciding autheity as to whether he can risk his mobility in this manner, would NOT

9 allow his means of mobility to go beyond bis own field of tactical control, c.g. rty tpt could NOT usrally safely be spared for tp movements well in rear; bringing up reinforce- ments, etc., or lifting supplios.

DF and DP (SCS):

These probably need regi-toring in daylight, and are therefor a thing that must be decided upon early. In attack, the F required for the SAFE-guarding of the objective from C/A must be decided LEFORE the attack is launched after the objectiv is taken nearly always turns out to be ICO LATE.
