Explanatory Note,

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but is intended

to indicate their general purport).

Regulation 2 of these regulations ammends the principal regulations by deleting the definition of "goods vehicle". This definition contains a reference to a dual purpose vehicle which class of motor vehicle has no been abolished.

Regulation 3 of these regulations creates a new offence of picking up or selting down passengers by a vehicle at any place within fifty feel of a sign indicating & tram stop, unless the place is designated as a parking place which may be used by the vehicle.

Regulation (2) of the principal regulations is also amended so that it is no longer an offence for a vehicle to park or wait within fifty feet of

a bus stop if the place at which the vehicle parks or waits is designalcal as a parking place which may be used by the vehicle.

ROAD TRAFFIC (PUBLIC OMNIBUS AND PUBLIC CAR) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1969.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections 3 and 5 of the Road Traffic Ordinance. the Governor in Council has made the following regulations-

L These regulations may be cited as the Road Traffic (Public Omnibus and Public Car) (Amendment) Regulations 1969 and

shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the Governor by notice in the Gazette.

2. Regulation I of the principal regulations is amended by inserting after "Omnibus" the following-

" Public Light Bus".

Regulation 2 of the principal regulations is amended by deleting the definition of "operator" and substituting the follow- ing-

""operator" means—

(a) in relation to a public omnibus or public car, a person to whom a franchise has been granted in respect of such omnibus or car; and

(6) in relation to a public light bus, the owner thereof;",

4. Regulation 3 of the principal regulations is revoked and replaced by the following new regulation-

These regulations shall apply- (a) to every public light bus; and

(b) to every public omnibus and every public car when such vehicle is used or is intended to be used to carry passengers at separate and distinct fares within the Colony on a recognized and predetermined route or for a recognized and predetermined purpose, in accordance with a right or licence granted by or under any enactment.".
