Section 6 of the principal Ordinance is amended-

(6) in subsection (1)—–—–

(i) by the deletion of paragraph (0) and the substitution therefor of the following-

"(a) a temporary licence for a period of six months renew- able at the discretion of the Commissioner, for further periods of six months each but not exceeding an aggregate period of two years; or":

(i) in paragraph (6) by the deletion of the words and brackets--

“(inclusive of the duration of any temporary licence granted to the same person under paragraph (@))":

(b) in subsection (3)-

(i) in paragraph (a) by the deletion of the word "or": (ii) in paragraph (5) by the deletion of the full stop and the substitution therefor of the following-

AL or"; and

(ii) by the addition after paragraph (5) of the following new paragraph-

"(c) if the licensee is convicted of any offence against any

of the provisions of this Ordinance."; and

(c) by the addition after subsection (4) of the following new sub-

section-

4.

"(5) Notwithstanding anything contained in this section, the Commissioner may in his discretion, and sub- ject to such conditions or restrictions as he may think fil in lieu of granting a licence, grant free of charge to any person or organization pormission in writing to engage solely in scientific research work relating to the culture of pearls or the cultivation of pearl oysters; and such permis- sion shall, for the purposes of this Ordinance, be deemed to be a sufficient licence for the carrying on of such work and matters necessarily incidental thereto.".

Section 8 of the principal Ordinance is amended by the dele- of section & tion of subsection (2) and the substitution therefor of the following-

"(2) Any person who acts in contravention of any of the provisions of subsection (1) shall be guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of twenty thousand dollars and to imprisonment for twelve months.".

Section 9 of the principal Ordinance is repealed.

7. Section 16 of the principal Ordinance is ameoded— (4) in subsection (1)—–—

(10) in paragraph () by the deletion of the words "the size and types" and the substitution therefor of the following-

"the size, types or numbers"; and

(5) in subsection (2) by the deletion of the words "one thousand

dollars" and the substitution therefor of the following-

"ten thousand dollars".
