BUILDING (STANDARDS OF SANITARY FITMENTS, PLUMBING, Drainage Works and Latrines) REGULATIONS, 1959.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 26 of the Buildings › Ordinance, 1955, the Governor in Council has made the following regulations-
PART I.
Preliminary.
1. These regulations may be cited as the Building (Standards ol! Sanitary Fitments. Plumbing. Drainage Works and Latrines Regulations, 1959, and shall come into operation on the 1st day ol January, 1960.
In these regulations, save where the context otherwis
requires- "anti-syphonage pipe" means a pipe used or constructed to be used
for the purpose of preventing loss of water seal from the trap off a soil fitment or waste fitment;
"approved" means approved by the Building Authority.
"cesspool" means an underground chamber constructed to be used for
the reception and storage of foul water:
"chemical closet fitment" means a latrine fitment in which the content;
of the receptacle for excrement are treated by means of chemicals! "cleaning eye" means an access opening in a pipe:
"foul water"" means any water contaminated by soil, waste or trad
effluent:
"latrine" means a room used or intended to be used for the housing
of latrine fitments:
"latrine fitment" means a Giment containing a receptacle for excrement.

"manhole" means a chamber constructed on a drain or sewer to provide access thereto for inspection, testing and the clearance of obstructions:

"private sewer" means a sewer which is not a public sewer; "public channel" means a channel vested in and maintained by the
Government;

"public sewer" means A sewer vested in and maintained by the
Government:
"rain water pipe" means a pipe used or constructed to be used for carrying off surface water directly from roof surfaces, verandahs and balconies;
"septic tank" means a tank, for the reception of soil from a building.

"slop sink" means a sink used or constructed to be used for receiving
solid or liquid excrement:
"soil" means the discharge from a soil fitment;
"soil fitment" means a watercloset fitment, trough watercloset, urinal,
slop sink, bidet or any similar fitment;
"soil pipe" means a pipe used or constructed to be used for carrying
off soil:
"sub-soil water" means water occurring naturally below the surface of
the ground:
"surface water" means rain water from any part of a building including any paved area or ground, whether paved or not, appurtenant to aay building:
"trade efflucot" means any liquid, either with or without particles of matter in suspension therein, which is wholly or in part produced in the course of any trade or industry:
"waste" means used water from a waste fitment or similar fitment: "waste fitment" means a bath, lavatory basin or sink, other than a slop
sick:
"waste pipe" means a pipe used or constructed to be used for carrying
of waste.

In the regulations in this Part, save where the context other Interpre wise requires- "entertainment” includes any concert, stage play, stage performance or other musical, dramatic or theatrical entertainment, or any part thereof, and the provision of facilities for the playing of any game, but does not include any cinematographic display:
"factory". "mine" and "industrial undertaking" bave the meaning assigned to them by section 2 of the Factories and Industrial Undertakings Ordinance, 1955;
