There are the following superscale posts for European women teachers which carry a salary of six hundred dollars a month (£840 per annum):
Principal, Malay Women's Training College. Headmistresses (3).
Life of Europeans in Malaya.
7. Full information regarding the conditions of life can and should be obtained from the Agent, Malayan Information Agency, Malaya House, 57, Trafalgar Square, London, W.C.2. There are excellent motor roads in Malaya, and a small car or motor-cycle will be found most useful. A loan, repayable out of salary, is made by the Government for their purchase.
Holiday Facilities.-A member of the Education Department employed in teaching enjoys the ordinary school holidays. There are hill stations at Penang (2,100 feet), Taiping (3,500 feet), Bukit Fraser (4,100 feet) and Cameron Highlands (4.750 feet). Where there is no hotel, accommodation may be obtained in the Government bungalows or rest-houses provided at these stations. Local steamship lines provide short sea-trips at moderate rates, and Java, Burma, Hong Kong, Ceylon and Sumatra are all within visiting distance.
In Penang, Singapore, Ipoh, and Kuala Lumpur there are large modern hotels, and throughout Malaya there are rest houses maintained by Government in all stations of any size, where board and lodging are provided.
Recreation. Most of the games played in England are played in Malaya. Social Clubs play a large part in the life of the European, and there are facilities for bathing and swimming in many places, and for polo in some stations.
Climate. The heat, owing to the moisture of the atmosphere, is at times oppressive. But very high temperatures such as occur in continental climates are not reached and the nights are cool. The monotony of the climate (no pronounced cold season) is its chief disadvantage. Care and moderation in living will generally ensure good health for the European. Social life and sport relieve the stress of the day's work.
European children can stay in Malaya up to the age of five or six.
General Information about Malaya.
Those desiring further information about British Malaya and its many interests and activities are referred to the Malayan Information Agency, Malaya House, 57, Trafalgar Square, London, W.C.2, where literature dealing with the country may be obtained and general information about the country is gladly given.
