A.-(i) During the first 8 years of resident service.-Furlough on full pay may be granted after a tour of 4 years' resident service.

(ii) During the next six years of resident service.-Furlough on full pay may be granted after a tour of 3 years' resident service.

(iii) After 14 years' resident service.-Furlough on full pay may be granted after a tour of 2 years' resident service.

B. Furlough on full pay may be granted at the following rates:-

(i) During the first 8 years of resident service.--At the rate of 1 day's

furlough for 6 days' resident service.

(ii) During the next 6 years of resident service. At the rate of 2 day's furlough for 9 days' resident service.

(iii) After 14 years' resident service. At the rate of 4 days' furlough for 15 days' resident service.

In addition to the above, leave with full salary may be granted to all officers taking courses of study with the approval of the Government up to a maximum of six months, subject to the total leave of absence with full salary on any one occasion not exceeding 12 months.

C.-Leave with half salary may be granted at the rate of one-twelfth vf resident service plus 6 months in the following special circumstances:—

(iii) To suit steamship arrangements (up to 14 days.)

D.-Local Leave.-Casual leave at the rate of 14 days a year may be granted without any deduction from an officer's furlough. Privilege leave up to one month may be granted once only during a tour of service for the purpose of visiting a neighbouring country. Privilege leave is deducted from the next period of furlough, and a corresponding period of leave with half salary is granted in lieu.

E.-Passages. An officer, his wife, and children under 10 years of age, will be allowed 1/36th of the cost of return passages to Europe for each month of the officer's resident service. This allowance is calculated so as normally to provide free passages during the whole of the officer's service, the excess passage earnings of his earlier service being carried forward for subsequent use during the time of the shorter tours of his later service.
