Ordinance, 1910, or any Ordinance amending the same, falling re- spectively into the said constituencies of Colombo Town (North) and Colombo Town (South), shall be a registration district, and the chairman of the municipality thereof shall be registering officer for every such registration district.

(4) For the purpose of registering voters for all other consti- tuencies, each revenue district or part of a revenue district in the Island contained within any such constituency shall be a registration district, and, except in the case of the Burgher Electorate, the Govern- ment Agent, or Assistant Government Agent, as the case may be, of such revenue district or part thereof, shall be the registering officer of each such registration district.

32.-(1) For the purpose of registering voters for the Burgher Constituency, the Governor shall from time to time appoint a regis- tering officer (styled the registering officer for the Burgher Consti- tuency), who shall be resident at Colombo, and shall perform the duties of a registering officer for the Burgher Constituency with respect to all the registration districts of such constituency in the Island.

(2) The registering officer for the Burgher Constituency shall be assisted by a board of not more than three persons nominated from time to time by the Governor, and holding office during the Governor's pleasure.

(3) It shall be the duty of such board to advise and assist the registering officer in preparing the register of voters. The duties of the board shall be advisory, and in the event of any difference between the registering officer and the board, the opinion of the registering officer shall prevail.

(4) Appointments made under the corresponding Article in the Order in Council of 1923 shall be deemed to have been made under this Article.

33. Any registering officer for the Indian Constituency may, if he thinks fit, from time to time ask and accept the assistance in the performance of his duties of one or more Indians residing in his tuency to accept registration district. Such assistance shall be advisory only and, in the event of difference of opinion, the opinion of the registering officer shall prevail.

ANNUAL REVISION OF REGISTERS. 34.-(1) The registers of voters prepared or prepared and revised under the Order in Council of 1923 shall be deemed to be the registers of voters for the election of members to represent the several con- stituencies hereinbefore specified and shall be revised annually as hereinafter mentioned.

(2) If any register is not revised in due time, the register in operation immediately before the time at which the new register ought to have been revised shall continue in operation until the new register is revised.

35. (1) The Governor may from time to time appoint a fit and proper person to be the revising officer for any registration district.

(2) Appointments made under the corresponding Article in the Order in Council of 1923 shall be deemed to have been made under this Article.

36.-(1) On or before the fifteenth day of August 1926 and there- after on or before the fifteenth day of August in every succeeding year, a notification shall be published in the Government Gazette calling upon every person not already registered in any register of voters and desirous of having his name inserted in such register of voters, or being registered in respect of a qualification which has ceased to have effect and being desirous of having his name entered

on the register in respect of some other qualification, to forward his claim to the registering officer of the registration district in which the claimant resides so as to reach the registering officer on or before the fifteenth day of the succeeding month of September.

Provided that the registering officer may, if he thinks fit, accept a claim lodged after that date.

(2), Every claim shall be in the form given below with such variations as circumstances may require, and shall be signed by the claimant in the presence of a Justice of the Peace, an unofficial police magistrate, an officer of the Civil Service, an advocate of the Supreme Court, a proctor, a notary public, a commissioner of oaths, or a chief headman (but no other person) and shall not be liable to stamp duty.

(3) If any person shall wilfully make a false statement in any claim to have his name entered on any register of voters, he shall, on summary conviction by a police magistrate, be liable to a fine not exceeding one thousand rupees or to imprisonment of either descrip- tion for a period not exceeding six months.
