The generous contribution of £1,000 to the War Fund, unanimously voted by the Legislative Council, is highly appreciated by Her Majesty's Government, and I have caused the Crown Agents for the Colonies to be instructed to make payment of that amount to the Fund.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Mr. Low's despatch of the 18th- of last month, transmitting a bill of exchange for £438 28. Id., as a further and final contribution to the Lord Mayor's Fund, No. 4, for the relief of the wives and children of soldiers and sailors engaged in the war in South Africa.
2. The Crown Agents for the Colonies have been instructed to pay the money to
the credit of this fund.
3. I wish to express my high appreciation of the liberality shown by the people of the Gold Coast in making so handsome a contribution to the necessities of some of those who have suffered by the war in South Africa.
