The Minister selects the Colonies in which Colonial "Administrateurs "shall serve. They are placed under the direct authority of Governor Generals and Governors, who dispose of them according to the requirements of the service.
Half the vacancies among Assistant “- Adminis- trateurs," 3rd class, are reserved for probationary "Administrateurs" who are recruited (1) with out competition from certificated students of the Colonial school who fulfil the conditions required by the regulations of the school; (2) after com petitive examination, of which the rules aud programme are settled by the Minister, from Among candidates having diplommas in law, science, letters, medicine, or of certain specified schools, and among candidates having five years' service as a clerk in a Secretariat Generalin the Colonies, Candidates must not be over 30 years of and must have performed their military service.

(a) To Ist class Assistants for Native Atairs and 1st class Assistants for Civil Affairs in Madagascar having at least two years' actual service in the Colonies.
