12. "Empress IX." The Committee considered a letter from the Depart- ment of the Secretary of State for External Affairs in Canada, and decided that the matter was not one in which they could usefully make any recommendation.
13. s.s. "Rostock."-The Secretary reported that it was understood that the Transport Department had made arrangements to bring this ship to the United Kingdom with her original cargo of concentrates.
14. Logwood from British Honduras.-The Committee considered that none of their ships would be available to bring home logwood from the Colony in the
autumn.

Erymanthos."-Mr. Evans reported the probable date of arrival of a portion of the railway material formerly consigned to the Hedjaz Railway. Messrs. Churchill and Sim were to be asked to make the necessary arrangements.
16. 8.3. 'Lome." Mr. Evans stated that he proposed that all the accounts for the voyage of this ship from Duala should be dealt with by the Admiralty and the freight for the private cargo paid over to them. The Committee concurred.
17. Commission payable to Messrs. Grahams & Company on the sale of enemy cargo ex the steamships "Barenfels,” “ Gutenfels,"
‚"" Lauterfels," and "Werdenfels." Mr. Barstow undertook to make inquiries privately as to the customary rate of commission payable on the sale of cargoes similar to those dealt with by this firm.
18. 8.0. Bellas."-The Committee approved the payment of £116 12s. 9d. to Messrs. Henry Langridge and Company in respect of the contribution of the ship in general average during the voyage from Mantana to London.
19. s.s. "Nerine."-The Committee approved the payment of £2,349 178. 9d. to the Ocean Steamship Company on account of the repairs to this steamer in Cardiff. They noted with satisfaction that the Company had declined to accept any disbursement commission on this payment.
20. 8.8. "Adolphus."-The Secretary reported that the accounts for voyages
5 to 7 of this ship had been satisfactorily disposed of, subject to audit.
21. Steamships "Pindos" and "Grahamland."--The Committee approved the payment of £29 12s. and £28 5s. to Messrs. C. W. Kellock and Company for their valuations of these two ships.

1. The minutes of the previous meeting were confirmed, subject to an alteration
in paragraph 9.

8.v. "Terpsichore."-Mr. Holt reported that there was a strike at Manchester, and that this ship had not yet been able to discharge her cargo.
3. s.v. "Clevedon."-Mr. Holt reported that this ship had arrived at Liver- pool, but that it was unlikely that she would obtain a berth during the next week. Mr. Evans undertook to ask the Senior Naval Officer if he could secure her an earlier berth. The Committee thought that there was no objection to this ship undertaking a further voyage to Port Arthur (Gulf of Mexico) to loud a cargo of timber.

Chile."-Mr. Holt reported that Messrs. Workman, Clark, and Com- pany were asking for a settlement of their account for tugs. The Admiralty had reported that the charge made by this firm was reasonable, but that it should include the cost of the hawser mentioned to the Committee at a previous meeting. The Committee agreed that Messrs. Workman, Clark, and Company should be informed that their account would be paid if they would accept it as a complete settlement as suggested by the Admiralty.

Edna." The Secretary reported that a letter had been written to the Admiralty as directed in the minutes of the previous meeting.
6. Accounts with Messrs. Elder Dempster and Company. This firm had submitted an account showing a balance due to the Committee of £1,281 in respect of the earnings of various steamers. The Committee decided that they could not be allowed to retain the money to meet the cost of the repairs of the s.s. "Emir," since these repairs had nothing to do with the Committee.
7. S.D." Llandaff."-The Secretary reported that the Treasury had authorized a grant equivalent to six months' salary of her late husband to Mrs. Hodge, the widow of the master.

8. S.S. Rostock."-The Committee decided to agree to the proposal of the Admiralty that the Transport Department should take this ship, with her cargo of leady concentrates, to Bombay and Karachi before coming home to the United Kingdom. The Admiralty were, however, to be asked to advise the Committee of the arrival of the ship with a view to arrangements being made for the sale of the concentrates, and a copy of the correspondence should be sent to the Foreign Office in order that the Marshal at Alexandria might be advised of the position.
9. Maize from Togoland.-Mr. Tennyson read a letter from Messrs. F. and A. Swanzy, Limited, reporting that there would be a large crop of maize in Togoland, and calling attention to the necessity for providing tonnage to bring it to the United Kingdom, where it was required. The Committee decided that they could do nothing in the matter. They suggested that the Ships Licensing Committee and the Board of Agriculture should be informed of the position, in addition to the Board of Trade and the Admiralty.
10. s.s. "Emil."-Mr. Holt stated that he was not satisfied with the explana- tions that had been given of the small amount of pit props carried in this ship, 3,700 tons only having been carried. The Committee decided that the Secretary should write to Messrs. Glover Brothers on the subject. They also decided to accept the sum of £484 included in Messrs. Glover's account for the repairs to the ship at Alexandria. The accounts should not be closed until the question of the amount of cargo carried had been settled.
11. S.S. Istria." The Secretary again brought up the question of the pay- ment of the proceeds of the sale of the cargo by the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation. The question was deferred until the next meeting, in order that Mr. Barstow might make inquiries with regard to the power of the Prize Claims Committee to make a grant to the bank.
12. Oregon" and "Leonor."--Mr. Tennyson reported the position of these two ships. The Committee considered that it was undesirable to proceed with the requisition of the "Leonor.' With regard to the " Oregon" it was understood that the Admiralty were pursuing their inquiries in the matter in consultation with His Majesty's Procurator-General.
13. General questions relating to the expenses incurred by Oversea Govern- ments in connexion with Prize.--The Secretary circulated to the Committee a The letter from the Treasury asking them to submit a report on the matter. Committee considered a memorandum by Mr. Tennyson with regard to the remunera- tion of Prize Court officers and the fees payable by litigants in Prize Courts. Mr. Tennyson and the Secretary were asked to submit a further report on this Mr. Malkin asked that a memo- subject for the next meeting of the Committee. randum relating to the Court at Alexandria might also be circulated to the Committee.
