Officer on the prevalence of the disease, with report of a committee appointed to make recommendations 88 to the best means of combating it; remarks on the difficulty of super. vising sanitary measures in the country districts, and welcomes any assistance from the International Health Commission.
States that, as it is improbable that a suitable candidate for the post of second Medical Officer in connexion with the ankylostomiasis campaign in Trinidad can, in present circum. stances, be found in England, the Governor has been given the liberty to make a temporary local appoint- ment if he sees an opportunity; and trusts that the Commission will approve of this arrangement.

Transmits a copy of his letter to the Governor of the Straits Settlements submitting proposals for a commis. sion of inquiry into ankylostomiasis in the Malay States, together with an outline of the work to be per- formed by the commission; states that, if the proposal is approved by the Governor, the Secretary of State, and the Advisory Committee, the work will be commenced at an early date.
Forwards copy of note to the Surgeon- General of British Guiana, covering a paper prepared by Dr. Howard, of the Commission, intended for pub- lication and wide distribution, regard ing the administrative problems of the work of eradicating the disease; asks that it may be submitted to the Advisory Committee.
Accepts his recommendation that the present financial arrangements with the Commission should be allowed to continue.
Doubts the propriety of allowing Dr. Durrant to act as Health Officer for Kingstown, and inquires whether the duties of Health Officer and those of Medical Officer for the Kingstown District could not conveniently be combined.
October 23 States, in reply to No. 24, that the arrangement for a temporary local (Rec. Nov. 2)
appointment will be satisfactory; offers, in view of the unusual de- mands being made upon the English medical profession, to lend men from the United States service.
