THE SECRETARY OF STATE to THE HIGH COMMISSIONER.
(Miscellaneous.)
SIR,
[Answered by Nos. 56 and 63.]
Downing Street, 9th January, 1914.
I HAVE the honour to transmit to you, for your information, a copy of a despatch* which I recently addressed to the Governors of certain West Indian Colonies, on the occasion of the visit of Mr. Wickliffe Rose. the Director of the International Health Commission.
Mr. Rose, who has completed his tour in the West Indies, proposes to leave Washington early in February to visit Egypt, Ceylon, and the Malay States.
The importance of an effective campaign against ankylostomiasis is, I have no doubt, fully appreciated by the Governments of the Malay States, and I trust that all possible facilities will be given to Mr. Rose on his arrival.
I hope to be able shortly to give you the precise date of Mr. Rose's visit. In the meantime, I shall be obliged if you will cause to be prepared for the Malay States the particulars indicated in the final paragraph of my despatch to the West Indian Colonies.

L. HARCOURT.
SIR,
COLONIAL OFFICE to FOREIGN OFFICE.
[Answered by No. 3.]
Downing Street, 9th January, 1914.
WITH reference to the letter from this Department of the 9th October last,† I am directed by Mr. Secretary Harcourt to request that you will inform Secretary Sir E. Grey that Mr. Rose, the Director of the International Health Commission, proposes to leave Washington early in February to visit Egypt, Ceylon, and the Mr. Malay States in connexion with the campaign against ankylostomiasis. Harcourt presumes that Sir E. Grey will be willing to do all in his power to obtain facilities for Mr. Rose in Egypt.
2. It is not at present known whether Mr. Rose will visit this country on his way to Egypt, but he will be invited to do so, in order to confer with the members of the Ankylostomiasis Committee, regarding which a separate letter has been addressed to you. If he should visit London, I am to inquire with whom he should be put in communication with a view to the discussion of the arrangements for his tour in Egypt.
