WITH reference to High Commissioner's despatch, No. 10/37, of the 12th instant* on the subject of the International Opium Convention, I have the honour to state that there are no laws, proclamations, rules, or other statutory provisions in force in this territory relative to the matters referred to in the Convention.
I am enclosing nil returns of the trade in drugs mentioned, as the only importa- tion of any such into the territory is by Medical Officers for professional use.
The annual requirement mentioned in the third paragraph of the despatch under acknowledgment has been carefully noted.

In the Bechuanaland Protectorate there are no laws or administrative regu- lations governing the importation [of], trade in, and use of, opium, morphine, cocaine, and other drugs referred to in the Convention and there appears to be no necessity for legislation on the subject, for the use of the drugs in question is practically
unknown.
