of this, Mr. Carnegie has generously agreed to give the Committee £1,000 a year for a further period of three years on the same conditions. .

At the present time the only Carnegie student in the States is Mr. Bodkin, the Government Entomologist of British Guiana; but probably the six months student- ship offered to Trinidad will be taken up shortly. It is desirable that the appoint ment of further students should be considered immediately, as Messrs. Rutherford and Strickland have now completed their two years' course, and have returned to this country,

At my request they have drawn up suggestions as to the most desir able course to be pursued by future students, in the fight of their own experiences; these are likely to prove of considerable value. It is satisfactory to record that entomological appointments have now been found for both these gentlemen, Mr. Strickland having been offered a post under Dr. Hewitt in Canada, while Mr. Rutherford has been appointed as Government Entomologist in Ceylon.

A statement has been laid on the table showing the financial position with regard to the Bulletin of Entomological Research, which shows a total débit balance of €248. Infortunately there appear to have been a number of withdrawals at the end of last year, but these fosses have since been made good, and Messrs. Dulau and Company are of opinion that the recent improvement is likely to be maintained. The number of subscription copies sold amounted to 250, which is just about the same as for last year. More money was expended on illustrations and maps than in the preceding volume, the heaviest individual items being £30 for Mr. Simpson's map of Southern Nigeria, and £29 for the two plates illustrating Mr. Neave's paper. A courteous invitation has been received by our President from His Serene Highness Prince Albert of Monaco, asking him to represent the Committee at the International Congress of Zoology, to be held at Monaco from the 25th to 30th March
