The date of these Returns is twenty-six years from the first settlement of Western Australis, and five years from the first introduction of convicts. It will be seen that the comparison between the progress of this Colony, and of New South Wales in its early days, is decidedly favourable to Western Australia.
Although not bearing immediately upon the object of the foregoing review, yet, as a matter of general interest, a brief account is subjoined of the same particulars in the latest Returns (1853) from the two Governments comprised in the original Colony of New South Wales.
