No. 111. HONG KONG.

I have, &c.,

CREWE.

THE SECRETARY OF STATE to THE GOVERNOR. (Miscellaneous)

Downing Street, 10 December, 1909.

SIR,

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, No. 109, of the 26th of April last, reporting that in connection with next year's Estimates the Legislative Council will be invited to vote the sum of £100 per annum for five years more as a grant to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund, and to state that I shall be glad to learn that the vote has been agreed to.

I would, however, point out that the last contribution made by the Colony to the Fund is in respect of the year 1908, and that the Crown Agents have not been authorised to make any subsequent payment. A sum of £100 appears in the Colonial Estimates on this account for 1909, and I have accordingly instructed the Crown Agents to pay over that amount from Hong Kong funds as a contribution to the Tropical Diseases Research Fund for the current year.
