Transmits copies of Nos. 52, 53, 54, 58, and 59, together with a set of photo- graphs of Durban Harbour, &c., for selection, and approves of the prepara- tion of the South African edition forth with.'

Transmits copy of a despatch from Lord Cromer to the Foreign Office forwarding a memorandum and letter from the Secretary-General to the Ministry of Public Instruction on the steps taken to arrange for a series of lectures.

Understands that he is to proceed with the preparation of the West Indian, West African, and South African lec- tures; enquires whether he should wait any longer for the photographic material from Mauritius, or leave that lecture to be completed later.

States that a despatch is expected from Mauritius by next mail, and suggests that he should await its arrival before proceeding with the West African, West Indian, and South African editions.

Reports that the Council of Government have voted £100 towards the cost of lantern lectures on the United King- dom, and transmits photographs, to- gether with a descriptive list.

Observes that the proposal in No. 53 has not apparently been considered by the Cape Government; thinks that matter had better proceed as already arranged in separate correspondence with the Government of Cape Colony,

Transmits copy of No. 64 and states that the editions of lectures for Mauritius, West Africa, and the West Indies can now be proceeded with, but that the edition for South Africa must stand over for the present.

Acknowledges receipt of No. 64 and expressos satisfaction at the vote of £100 and at the photographs trans- mitted.

Refers to the question of initial expense in connection with lantern lectures on the United Kingdom and suggests that the Transvaal should become the owner of the South African edition.

Regrets that the arrangement proposed in No. 53 cannot be carried into effect and states that a suggestion is being male to the High Commissioner for South Africa that the Transvaal should become the owner of the South African edition.
