expressing the opinion that necessary expenditure would not be justified in view of the small number of children who would benefit, hut recommending the purchase of slides for use in the geography examination in schools.

States that the scheme will be brought before the Combined Court at its next meeting.

Froposes to adopt the scheme and assistance of Mr. requests the Mackinder and information on the points mentioned; asks whether the estimate of expense can be reduced. Transmits copy of a letter to the Agent- General instructing him to arrange, the Agent- in conjunction with General for the Cape Colony, for obtaining special South African slides illustrative of the lectures which it is proposed to deliver.

Reports that he does not consider it worth while to prepare a special edition of lectures, but thinks the lectures might be adapted to the circumstances in each school; asks for a set of slides and copies of the lectures.

Reports that the Immigration Branch of the Department of the Interior desires to share in the scheme and asks for the circular and syllabus already published,

Transmits copy of correspondence with the South African Governments respecting the scheme.

States that the Board of Education do not consider that the expenditure on account of the lectures is a fit item to be charged to the Education Vote. States that the Board of Education con- sider that the financial condition of the Colony does not at present warrant that would be the expenditure involved by the lectures.

Expresses gratification that the Canadian Government hopes to utilize the scheine, and transmits documents asked for in No. 18.

Transmits copy of despatches from the Secretary, Kalomo, and the Adminis- trator, Salisbury, stating that the intro- duction of the scheme would be premature at present.
