Embodies a telegram from the Gov- reporting remittance of £70,000; states that the money has been used to reduce the advances from loan funds, and asks to be in- formed of the actual position of the matter.

Enclosescopy of a letter from their bullion brokers on the subject of the position of the silver market, and suggests that, as there would not appear to be any prospect of selling at the price autho- rised in No. 11, the Colonial Govern- ment might consider the desirability of further reducing the price. Observes, in reply to No. 16, that Lord Crewe is unable to state the actual position of the matter but is sending the correspondence to the Governor; encloses copies of Nos. 1, 10, and 12.

Transmits copy of No. 17 and requests to be informed by telegraph whether it is desired to reduce the selling price of the dollars.

Transmits copy of a further letter from their bullion brokers regarding the position of the silver market. Requests approval of the manner in which it is proposed to dispose of certain remittances made by the Colonial Government as deposits on account of security against note issue. Transmite copies of Nos. 16, 18, and 21; gathers that no objection will be taken to the gold received by the Crown Agente being lent out at call, but suggests that it will be necessary to amend section 11 of Ordinance XXVII of 1908 before this course can legally be taken proposes so to instruct the Governor and to add that the amend- ing Ordinance should provide that the interest on the gold lent out at call be paid to the Gold Standard Reserve Fund.

Discusses the manner in which the gold received by the Crown Agents against Government Notes issued at Singapore should be dealt with; states that there is no objection to power being taken for the Crown Agents to invest or lend out at call one-half of such moneys for the time being in their hands, the other half being held in gold.
