asks for observations on the various points raised therein; trusts that the Governor will conour in the instruc- tion given to Crown Agents as keeping their accounts in connection with the disposal of moneys received by them against notes issued in Singapore.

Reports purchase of £50,000 in sovereigna in accordance with the terms of an enclosed notice issued by the Straits Government, which will be dealt with in the manner already directed; en- closes correspondence with the Straits Government respecting the payment of 241,000 dollars by the Currency Commissioners to the Tanjong Pagar Dock Board.

States that they have made arrangements with the Bank of England to hold half the Gold Reserve Fund and asks for the Secretary of State's approval of the Bank's terms and for any Ordinances and other published papers on the subject.

States, in reply to No. 28, that the trans. actions with the Tanjong Pagar Dock Board should be shown in the account of the Note Issue Gold Reserve; considers that it will be necessary to keep a separate account of the Gold Standard Reserve showing all the transactions. Approves of Bank's terms and encloses

copies of documents as specified.

Acknowledges the receipt of despatch forwarding copies of Nos. 28 and 30: submits observations on the instruc- tions given to the Crown Agents.

Submits, in reply to No. 27, observations on the subject of the gold received in London against notes issued in the Colony, and of the disposal of the proceeds of the sale of old dollars,

ment.

Embodies copies of telegraphic corres- pondence with the Governor of the Straits Settlements as to the method of dealing with the proceeds of the sale of 4,000,000 dollars; requests the consequential modification in the figures given in No. 38, and saks for approval in carrying out the instructions of the Straits Settlements Government.

Aske if the proceeds of sale of four million dollars now being made should not be dealt with as follows: half held in specie, half lent on short loan.

Telegram (Rec. Jane 4) States, in reply to No. 40, that the proceeds of the sale of the four million dollars should be invested, one-half permanently and one-half on short loan.
