I AM directed by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton to request you to pay to Messrs. Sutton, Ommanney, and Rendall the sum of £114 5s. 10d., which is to be paid as compensation to members of the staff of the London Office of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, in accordance with the arrangements stated in the enclosed copy of a letter from this Department to Messrs. Sutton, Ommanney, and Rendall.
Mr. Fraser has refused to accept the pension offered, and the question of his compensation will have to be decided by the Arbitration Court. Mr. Gray has accepted a pension of £66 13s. 4d., which you should pay to him, on behalf of the Dock Board, in quarterly instalments, reckoning from the date at which you ceased to pay his salary.

Straits Settlements.
Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, Limited.
IN reference to your letter of the 11th ultimot and our recent interview with Mr. Fiddes, when we informed you that, whilst Mr. Fraser declined to accept the proposal contained in your letter now under reference, Mr. Gray and the other clerks had agreed to accept the offer you made to them, we should be obliged if you would inform us how Mr. Gray's pension will be secured to him, whether by pur- chase of a Government annuity or otherwise, and if you would at the same time forward us a cheque for £114 5s. 10d., representing the sums to be paid to the clerks named. We are in communication with the Company's solicitors with a view to the necessary receipts being obtained as for compensation payable under section 4 of the Ordinance.
We have, as instructed, informed the Company's solicitors that the proposal made to Mr. Fraser must now be considered as withdrawn, and his claim for com- pensation left to be dealt with by the Court of Arbitration.

The pension to Mr. Gray will be paid by the Crown Agents, as London Agents for the Tanjong Pagar Dock Board, in quarterly instalments as they become due.
