WITH reference to your letter of the 1st of June and to the letter from this Department of the 2nd of June,* I am directed by Mr. Secretary Lyttelton to forward to you a copy of a despatcht from the Governor of the Straits Settlements with regard to the engagement of Mr. G. A. Derrick as accountant in connection with the Tanjong Pagar Dock Arbitration.

2. Mr. Lyttelton presumes that it will not now be necessary to make any com- munication to the Company's solicitors on the subject.

Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, Limited.

We have to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 31st ultimo for- warding a copy of the despatch from the Governor of the Straits Settlements with regard to the engagement of Mr. G. A. Derrick as accountant.

In view of all the circumstances we concur in Mr. Lyttelton's opinion that it will not now be necessary to make any communication to the Company's solicitors on the subject.

CLAIM of the Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, Limited, for compensation for the taking over by the Government of the Straits Settlements of the undertaking by (sic) the Company in pursuance of the Ordinance No. VII. of 1905. The Tanjong Pagar Dock Company, Limited, claim as compensation for the taking over of the undertaking $78,584,098.90.

It must be understood that some adjustment of this claim may have to be made in Singapore.

Admiralty, September 5, 1905. WITH reference to your letter, No. 30508, of the 25th ultimo, § respecting the Tanjong Pagar Dock, I am commanded by my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to request you will represent to Mr. Secretary Lyttelton that they have selected the following as representatives of this Department at the forthcoming Conference on this subject, viz. :—

Sir James Williamson, C.B. (Director of Dockyards) or, in his absence,

Mr. J. B. Marshall, C.B. (Assistant Director of Dockyards).

Mr. F. W. Black (Director of Naval Stores) or, in his absence, Mr. G. H. Ash-

down (Assistant Director of Naval Stores), and

Captain M. P. A. Hankey, R.M.A., Naval Intelligence Department.

2. My Lords will be glad to learn when it will be convenient for this meeting to take place at the Colonial Office.
