WITH respect to New Brunswick a favour- able account can also be given, though there has never been displayed the same vigour in polítical and industrial pursuits in this as in the adjoining province of Canada. Responsible government prevails here too. It was intro duced in 1849, and has been attended with the usual success.
The income of the province is
prosperous, as will be observed from Table A, and it is the more striking because the revenue

But possibly the development which will be given to trade in the province by rail. ways, and by the Reciprocity Trosty, may load to more enlightened views on this subject, and gradually convince the people that is will be found more advantageous to their interests that the Governor should exercise a more direct

The militia, according to the returns of 1853, consists of a nominal force of 32,402 men.
