COLONIAL SECRETARIAT,
LOWER ALBERT ROAD,
HONG KONG,
27th January, 1949.
(26)
Dear Blackburne,
Thank you for your letter 96834/15/48 of 8th November, 1948, concerning the proposal to set up a transmitter in Hong Kong which would be able to reach Canton on the medium
wave.
Before considering this further, we have been trying to find out how well our existing medium wave transmitters could get through to Canton if they were freed from the unintentional jamming to which they are at present subjected by the multiplicity and variety of stations operating in Canton on a free-for-all basis.
There is one particular as yet unidentified station in Canton seriously jamming medium wave reception from Hong Kong and although efforts are being made by our Consulate- General in Canton to track down the offender no success has yet been reported. We therefore continue in ignorance of how well our present medium-wave broadcasts can be received in Canton; nor will we know until we have had more reports on the subject.
I would suggest that for the time being any approach to the Foreign Office might be postponed until we have something more definite.
K.W. Blackburne, Esq.,
Director of Information Services,

Yours sincerely,
