REINFORCEMENTS FOR HONG KONG ·
METOD AND IMPLICATIONS OF PROVIDING REINFORCEMENTS FOR HONG KONG
OBJECT
The object of this paper is to examine the method
and the implications of sending a brigade group with a
squadron of tanks to HONG KONG.
SOURCE OF REINFORCEMENTS
Since in the present situation no troops can be
spared from the MIDDLE EAST reinforcements for HONG KONG can
only be provided
(a) From MALAYA, and
(b) From the UNITED KINGDOM either to proceed to
HONG KONG direct or else to replace units in MALAYA
which have been sent to HONG KONG.
IMPLICATIONS OF SENDING REINFORCEMENTS FROM MALAYA
GHQ FARELF have prepared plans for reinforcing HONG KONG from MALAYA in emergency. They propose to despatch
one infantry battalion to meet a threat of a large scale
influx of refugees. In the event of the three fold threat of
internal unrest, influx of refugees and external aggression by
guerilla bands arising simultaneously it is proposed to
despatch from MALAYA & brigade group plus one battalion.
